About Alex Vargas Process

He met the very influential and now late Roberto Matta in 1994.

Matta's ideas and work reinforced many of Alex's concepts of matter and its ongoing transformational condition.

He met with Alejandro Jodorowsky in 2002, another pioneering figure who approaches art as a therapy to help achieve the freedom to act directly on personal impulse.

Jodorowsky's methods, incorporating surrealism with direct aesthetic assaults and shocking juxtapositions on the cinema screen are also strong influences.

Since 1999 lives and works in London currently developing an art short film, Field of Dissonance, the first of a cycle of films to explore dimensions of life, evolution and individual experience as eternal processes through large-scale frameworks of time.

Field of Dissonance Project

Currently working in Field of Dissonance Project:

The first of a series of short films by London-based artist Alex Vargas, developing a single exploratory theme, Field of Dissonance opens a cycle of films to explore dimensions of  life, evolution and individual experience as processes which develop over vast time-frames and across astronomical spaces.

Work:

Alex's creative exploration of alternative realities began at age nine when he joined a troupe of clowns that performed on television in his native Santiago, Chile. After studying fine art there and in Barcelona, Alex settled in Spain for fifteen years, developing his unique approach of examining human identity through representations of bodily parts and organs presented in distorted forms. During this time he painted murals for clients across Europe, was art director for numerous commercials, and a secondary school art lecturer, while exhibiting his own award-winning work in several Spanish galleries.

As of 1999, he is based in London where his work in several mediums has been shown in a number of art fairs and galleries. Field of Dissonance is his brainchild, a fusion of his identity/body art explorations and his long-standing fascination with the surreal realms pioneered by earlier artists: "The works of Roberto Matta introduced me to mutant, ever-transforming worlds where reality itself is simply a process unfolding, and I adopted this perspective universally.

The otherworldly films and philosophy of Alejandro Jodorowsky are a perfect compliment to Matta, and film is the ideal art form in which to explore unfolding processes because they occur over time. Time is the only absolute. Field of Dissonance will deliver this perspective to its viewers, and, I hope, open doors for them and me to make more discoveries in perception."

What We Believe at FoD Team

We’re committed to innovation in the sciences and arts alike: Field of Dissonance will be a short but enchanting journey through cosmic time and consciousness as rendered through surreal and fantastic sets, sculptures, costumes and characters.  John Dunton-Downer co-directing on a team with inimitable plastic artists Alex Vargas and Sonia Ciruelo, with music and further production by Sepultura’s own founding member Iggor Cavaleras and MixHell’s Laima Cavaleras.
